podcast : Victoria Welsby - Fierce & Fat
On this episode I’m joined by body positive activist, Victoria Welsby. We don’t waste any time and get real personal, real fast. Victoria shares how she got into the work of specifically fat body positivity and her path to discovering her worth. She also walks me through what it was like taking her clothes off in front of 2,600 people and the reception she received afterwards.
We jam on Fatphobia, Vancouver’s obsession with health and wellness and the discrimination Victoria commonly faces. She gives me solid advice on how to be an advocate and in allyship for all bodies and what we need to do to re-write the negative connotations associated with the word ‘fat’.
Victoria shares SO MANY fresh perspectives on what it means to be ‘healthy’, our dysfunctional love of celebrating weight loss and dating. I’ll say it again, dating.
Victoria grew up in Peterborough, UK, and now resides in Vancouver, BC. As a child, she was painfully shy with low confidence and self-esteem. After dating ‘creepy guys’ and being homeless, Victoria eventually had a come-to-Jesus moment and thought to herself, “what the fuck am I doing?”. She made drastic changes like cutting out toxic friendship, dumping shitty boyfriends and loving the body she’s in.
Victoria is now a body image activist, confidence expert and Adjunct Professor. She helps people fall in love with themselves and is dedicated to changing the way we view fat bodies.
